*A celebration of the spirit of wild salmon!*

*Media Release – Launch of Wild Salmon Caravan Website*

The Wild Salmon Caravan is a collaborative, grassroots project led by Eddie
Gardner, Stó:lõ Elder, and Dawn Morrison (Secwepemc), Founder and Director
of the BC Food Systems Network Working Group on Indigenous Food
Sovereignty. The intention of the Wild Salmon Caravan is to nurture the
creative energy that wild salmon have inspired through the ages, and affirm
inter-tribal relationships that are the foundation of Indigenous trade and
fisheries knowledge systems adapted over thousands of years. Ancient
ceremonies and songs of Indigenous peoples, as well as engaging speakers,
and creative expressions of music, storytelling, and visual and performing
arts, will call the wild salmon home to the rivers, lakes, and streams of
the Fraser Basin and Salish Sea corridor. In a similar spirit as the world
renowned Mardi Gras festival in New Orleans, we call on all media to help
shine a light on the social, cultural and ecological values of our most
important Indigenous food, wild salmon.

The Wild Salmon Caravan was launched in ancient ceremony and songs near the
sacred headwaters of the Fraser River at Mount Robson in traditional
Secwepemc territory on June 6. Since then, the caravan has embarked on an
epic journey as we travel down the river stopping at Indigenous communities
along the Fraser River to celebrate and honour the spirit of wild salmon.
The caravan is heading for Vancouver for a grand finale with a full on
parade and festival. The parade will begin at 11:00 am at Creekside Park
North near Science World, and will proceed down Main Street to Crabpark
where we will enjoy a full afternoon of ceremony, music, poetry,
storytelling, humour, and engaging speakers.

Your participation will be a a deep and meaningful demonstration of truth
and reconciliation in our efforts of showing the world our love for wild
salmon, our most important Indigenous food.
