The Sharing Farm is hiring a Volunteer Coordinator for our farm in
Richmond. The Sharing Farm is a not-for-profit community farm growing food
for the food bank, community meals, and refugee programs.

2020 VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR JOB POSTING
THE SHARING FARM SOCIETY, RICHMOND B.C.
Background
The Sharing Farm (TSF) is a not-for-profit community farm that grows
organic vegetables on donated city lands for the Richmond Food Bank and
other community agencies. This is a seasonal position from 24 Mar to 8
Nov, averaging 35 hours a week, Thursday - Sunday. This position will
require a willingness to work some longer weeks and some shorter weeks,
depending on job demands.
The Sharing Farm is a unique community farm combining the practice of
organic farming set within a framework of food justice and food security in
the region. The four-acre farm is situated within Richmond’s Terra Nova
Rural Park, located at the western end of Westminster Highway, alongside
the West Dyke, in Richmond BC. It is accessible by bus, car, or bicycle.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead three regular Drop-in Volunteering sessions per week (tasks to be
decided by the Field Manager)

Lead one or two Corporate Volunteering sessions per week (tasks to be
decided by the Field Manager)

Run TSF Sunday Farmers Markets from June-Sep (approx. 20 markets)

Assist the Field Manager with field preparation, field maintenance, crop
development, crop harvest, and post-harvest handling
-
Coordinate volunteers for the Richmond Garlic Festival, our annual
fundraiser (August)

Host volunteer appreciation event at the end of the year (November)
-
Prepare a snack (salad, crackers, cookies etc.) for two of the weekly
volunteer sessions

Be responsible for maintaining farm and community kitchen spaces after
volunteer use
Qualifications:
-
Comfortable working with people from all kinds of backgrounds and
abilities
-
Experience in organic farming, gardening or other related work
-
Self-motivated, flexible, willing to take initiative, work well
independently and in a team environment, good communication skills
-
Be physically fit and enjoy working outside in all kinds of weather
-
Proven ability in working effectively with volunteers and/or co-workers
-
Well-organized with good record keeping skills
-
Valid driver’s license
-
Be available on weekends and some evenings
-
Desirable: experience preparing food for groups
Salary: $18 per hour
35 hour work week, must be available weekends.
