The Sharing Farm is hiring a Field Assistant for our farm in Richmond.  The
Sharing Farm is a not-for-profit community farm growing food for the food
bank, community meals, and refugee programs.

2020 FIELD ASSISTANT JOB POSTING

THE SHARING FARM SOCIETY, RICHMOND B.C.

Background

The Sharing Farm (TSF) is a not-for-profit community farm that grows
organic vegetables on donated city lands for the Richmond Food Bank and
other community agencies.

This is a seasonal position from 24 Mar to 9 Nov, averaging 40 hours a
week, Wednesday – Sunday.  This position will require a willingness to work
some longer weeks and some shorter weeks, depending on job demands. Ideally
we are looking for a candidate who would stay at the farm for several
years.

The Sharing Farm is a unique community farm combining the practice of
organic farming set within a framework of food justice and food security in
the region. The four-acre farm is situated within Richmond’s Terra Nova
Rural Park, located at the western end of Westminster Highway, alongside
the West Dyke, in Richmond BC. It is accessible by bus, car, or bicycle.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

   -

   Assist the Field Manager with field preparation, field maintenance, crop
   development, irrigation,  crop harvest, and post-harvest handling
   -

   Assist in supervising the team of summer field interns, and corporate
   volunteer groups
   -

   Maintain high quality produce standards and food safety standards
   -

   Run TSF Sunday Farmers Markets from June-Nov (approx. 20 markets)

Qualifications:

   -

   Experience in organic farming
   -

   Ability to work at an efficient pace and willingness to work hard to
   complete farm tasks when required
   -

   Be physically fit and enjoy working outside in all kinds of weather
   -

   Self-motivated, flexible, willing to take initiative, work well
   independently and in a team environment, good communication and
   record-keeping skills
   -

   Be comfortable working with people from all kinds of backgrounds and
   abilities
   -

   Well-organised, punctual and able to keep a clean and organised work area
   -

   Valid driver’s license
   -

   Be available on weekends (days off will be Monday and Tuesday) and able
   to work 11 hour shifts on market days
   -

   Be fully committed for the summer season (very limited possibility for
   leave, from May-September)
   -

   Salary: $18-20 per hour, depending on experience

40 hour work week, must be available weekends.
