Hello all,
for my fellow policy geeks, you may be interested in this article by David
Lark at the University of Victoria that explores the relationship
between Investor State Dispute Settlements that are integrated into far too
many Intl Trade Agreements and the ability of governments to take action on
climate change:

I have long believed that ISDS has placed a "chill" on municipal govt and
other institutions on committing to local procurement. And now climate
change - sigh. Would love to see an end to the mechanism altogether - being
the perpetual optimist that I am!

in good food,
Abra
(currently ensconced at Brewster Kneen's place in Ottawa, working away at
Cathleen's old desk)

"Whoever suggested that good thinking should be in a straight line?"
Brewster Kneen

"Social justice does not come from passivity or non-caring. Justice must
be struggled for. That is what life is, or should be all about - striving
for justice. Not only or primarily as individuals, but as members of larger
communities." Ursula Franklin
