Yes, I am deeply worried that we are totally unprepared for the looming
social and ecological collapse that will probably hit us hard sooner than
expected and especially food security globally. Clearly the majority of
govt, business and most people are still living and planning for more or
less business as usual. I just sat in on a presentation by a City of
Vancouver planner on a new economic revitalization plan, and while climate
change and enviro sustainability is obviously factored in, by no means do I
see the kind of radical economic shifts that are needed immediately. It all
feels very surreal as these planners are still looking at long range time
frames and pretty much status quo form what I can see. I let them know that
I was shocked by this lack of concern.

Truth is, we are locked in processes, systems, jobs, investments, etc etc,
that preclude just saying, "okay, today everything changes. no more work as
usual, we are shutting this or that down, we are beginning our degrowth"
Not going to happen, so best we can do in my opinion is prepare the best we
can for collapse by building as much resilience in community as we can,
possibly to stave off the worst to come. Even this feels challenging. We
can only do what we can.

At any rate, I would like more information on this coalition. While I
support the points raised (and certainly there could be many added), there
are some important considerations that I would add, namely respecting and
honoring Indigenous rights and sovereignty, the protection of large
conservation areas able to sustain at-risk species and accessible to
Indigenous hunting, fishing and food gathering (so including the protection
of fish stocks and shutting down of fish farms), and massive new
urban/peri-urban agriculture strategy (including decommissioning roads to
allow for more food growing space) to grow more food close to cities (where
most people live and assuming transport breakdowns).

I could come up with more, but just a few thoughts. Please keep me updated
as I am on board with a large public statement on the threat to our food
security and something that the BCFSN might want to take a more serious
look at - in terms of immediate emergency response to our food security in
view of sudden and probable ecological collapse. While I do not have time
now, there are many scientific sources that could be cited warning of
immanent eco and social collapse.

Thank you,
