We have perhaps never been as conscious of “eating well” as a society as we
are today. There is a growing awareness about the prevalence of
diet-related disease and the influence that the food industry has on
shaping our diets. Yet there is still a lot of confusion among the public
about how to understand the many different claims made by “evidence-based”
dietetic advice. We are not wrong to be confused.

In this webinar, researcher and broadcaster Dr. Jennifer Brady will discuss
the ways that class and race inform our notion of good food, and how
defining health itself is not a straightforward scientific question, but a
construct shaped in ways that sometimes create bias and harm. Dr. Trace
Mackay, one of the designers of CFCC’s FoodFit nutrition and exercise
program, will explore how these critiques can be addressed in
community-based programs to create an empowering approach to healthier
eating. The webinar is moderated by Kathryn Scharf, Chief Operating Officer
of Community Food Centres Canada.

When: Monday, October 29, 2016 12 - 1 p.m. Eastern
