Subject: [BCFSN] Fwd: Pictures of Fraser sockeye - yesterday

Please see Alexandra Morton`s forwarded message below for very alarming pictures of wild salmon that were taken last week. I have asked that she keep me in the loop for the results of the lab tests that will hopefully help us understand what the salmon are suffering from, and thereby understand how to help save them from further harm.

As our most important Indigenous food that ultimately feeds the forests, fields and waterways with heavy nitrogen cycling and food for many other animals, they are a critically important cultural and ecological keystone species that demand our concentrated focus and attention in the land and food system.

Stay tuned for more ways you can get involved.

In the spirit of wild salmon,

Dawn Morrison,

Hello
Attached are photos of young sockeye salmon on the Fraser migration route off Campbell River in the Discovery islands. These were taken on Saturday of last week.

I don't know what is wrong with them yet, I am trying to find out. Samples have been sent to several labs. They were caught in Barnes Bay, Okisollo Channel among the salmon farms.
Researchers further north near Port McNeill have seen a few of them, but not as many as are in the Discovery Islands where these are from. We have been researching sockeye in this area for over 10 years and have not seen this before.
I thought that you would want to know, and wondered if you have any thoughts on this.
Thank you,

Alexandra Morton
