BCFSN members and friends,

Main point: I suggest that:
· It is worth doing the ALR Regulation survey.

· It is best to understate one¹s agreement with proposals.

· Doing the survey doesn¹t have to take long.

Background reminders: The survey about proposed changes to the ALR
Regulation closes on Friday, August 22 at noon. It is the public part of a
larger consultation. The engagement page is
http://engage.gov.bc.ca/landreserve/, which links to the consultation paper
and the survey.

The consultation has a strategic aspect that¹s easy to miss:
· It strengthens the ALC.

· We who typically support a strong ALC can subtly add momentum and take
care not to hinder it.

In the consultation paper, the trend is evident on page 2 (PDF page 4).
Between the lines of ³Consultation Process,² it appears that the ALC is
practically co-leading the process. That is an effect of:
· The steadfast leadership of ALC chair Richard Bullock

· Ministerial change, with Agriculture Minister Norm Letnick finally in
charge instead of the Bennett-Pimm duo

· Our efforts

I have analyzed aspects on the Garden City Conservation blog. After the
Welcome at http://gardencitylands.wordpress.com, scroll to four related
articles, including:
· ³Consultation is limiting Bill 24 harm to ALR,²
http://wp.me/p97QM-2Gu, my column in the Richmond Review, which the editor
also sent to the other Black Press papers in B.C. It provides strategic
context.

· ³Examples of ALR Regulation Survey,² http://wp.me/p97QM-2GE. I suggest
that you skim it and read some parts. It includes Pimm¹s tactics to
influence the survey results and ex-ALC compliance officer Thomas Loo¹s
insights.

One can do the survey quickly by just rating the questions and being sparing
in approval ratings. That is the safe way to err if one is concerned about
accidentally voting for more change than wanted.

With best wishes,
