Executive Director, Nanaimo Community Kitchens Society

 

Continuing Part-Time position subject to funding and satisfactory
performance reviews.

 

30 hours per week, 10 months per year (September - June). Flexible schedule
based on operational needs. 

 


The Executive Director is employed by and reports to the Nanaimo Community
Kitchens Society Board of Directors.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

Coordinate, facilitate and evaluate NCK programs, including recruitment,
placement and orientation of NCK program participants in appropriate NCK
programs;

 

Administer NCK programs, including budgeting, selection and training of
staff and volunteers, record-keeping and communications.

 

Develop NCK programs in consultation with the Board and based on assessment
of need and opportunities to serve the Society's goals.

 

Raise funds to support NCK programs in collaboration with the Board,
including maintaining relationships with external funders, writing proposals
and ensuring that reports for funded projects are completed.

 

Communicate regularly with the NCK Board of Directors, including attending
regular meetings and providing reports on program developments and
significant changes, progress, accomplishments and concerns.

 

Promote NCK programs by actively maintaining a positive image of Nanaimo
Community Kitchens in the community and amongst its stakeholders.

 

Qualifications:  

 

-       At least 2 years post-secondary education; Bachelor's degree
preferred

-       3-5 years experience (paid or volunteer) in related field(s) such as

o    Nutrition / food programs

o    Social services

o    Community development

o    Group facilitation

o    Human services

o    Non-profit management

-       Nutrition knowledge informed by evidence-based science

-       Current Food Safe Level I certificate

-       Current First Aid Level I certificate

-       Current Criminal Record Check

-       Valid driver's license and the use of a reliable vehicle

-       Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and facility
with social media

-       Sensitive communication with people from varied cultures,
socioeconomic backgrounds, and barriers.

-       Ability to collaborate with others inside and outside of the
organization to develop joint solutions to problems, issues and
opportunities.

-       Flexible approach to program delivery, responsive to client needs &
feedback.

-       Ability to work independently within a flexible schedule.

-       Physical ability to lift, to carry and transport kitchen equipment
and bags of food.

-       Client-centered, client-focused in programming and delivery to
facilitate learning.

-       Responsive to client needs & feedback. 

-       Strong organizational and management skills.

-       Relationship-focused with excellent interpersonal skills & conflict
resolution. 

-       Comfortable working in non-profit environment, reporting to Board, &
working with uncertainty of ongoing funding.

-       Grant writing skills.

-       Volunteer management skills; comfortable working with volunteers.

-       Writing & presentation skills.
