Position Title: Community Food Market Coordinator

Reports to: Executive Director, Cedar Cottage Food Network

Hourly Wage: $18/hr

Hours: Approximately 35 hours per month. Market Days include the 1st and
3rd Saturday of the month (8am to 5pm) and the 4th Thursday of the month
(11am to 7pm) with some hours for special events, meetings and other
programs. This is subject to change, with market dates in 2019 likely every
Saturday.

Organizational Mandate: The Cedar Cottage Food Network Society (CCFN) is an
independent, non-profit organization working toward more sustainable and
just food systems at the neighbourhood level. We create space for
Kensington-Cedar Cottage residents to take part in different levels of food
systems by providing programming, tools, and opportunities for community
connections.

Description of Position: The mobile market program operates two Saturdays
and one Thursday of the month to bring accessible and fresh produce to
members of the Kensington-Cedar Cottage neighbourhood. The Market
Coordinator is responsible for the running of the mobile markets every
month as well as support in various events and programs such as harvest
festivals, workshops and kids camps as needed. This position includes
set-up and take-down of market supplies, produce orders, produce pick-up,
handling cash, customer service and volunteer supervision.

Ideal Candidate: We are looking for a candidate with strong project
coordination skills and who thrives in dynamic and independent leadership
role. They have great customer service skills and experience working within
marginalized communities. They are enthusiastic, highly organized, and
attentive to detail so they can manage a multi-faceted workload while
building and maintaining professional relationships.

Responsibilities include:

   -

   Ordering produce that is seasonal, appropriate and financially accessible
   -

   Updated our blog and social media
   -

   Picking up produce and transporting to various locations in the KCC
   neighbourhood
   -

   Set-up and takedown of our pocket market, including lifting heavy items
   -

   Pricing produce and handling cash
   -

   Interacting with participants in a friendly and respectful manner
   -

   Recording sales and maintaining records
   -

   Supervise volunteers
   -

   Supervise Summer Students
   -

   Communicating with partner organizations

Qualifications

   -

   Experience with community work, particularly related to pocket markets
   or farmers’ markets
   -

   Experience with customer service, especially for marginalized communities
   -

   Demonstrated success with project coordination
   -

   Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds
   -

   Education in a relevant field, or equivalent experience
   -

   Outreach and promotion of projects with various stakeholders
   -

   Experience working in a paid/volunteer capacity within the non-profit
   sector considered favourably
   -

   Experience with volunteer recruitment, supervision
   -

   Must have a Class 5 driver's license and clean driver’s abstract
   -

   Must be able to lift heavy items of up to 50lbs.

   Sound understanding of food security/sovereignty principles, the
   spectrum of food based programs in Vancouver, and barriers to food access
   -

   Sensitivity to and understanding of systems of oppression and how they
   increase barriers to accessing food
   -

   Independent analytical thinking to optimize programming and results
   -

   Excellent planning skills and ability to adapt to priorities
   -

   Excellent verbal and written communication skills
   -

   Strong organizational and time management skills
   -

   Ability to work independently and under guidance
   -

   Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Google Drive and social media
