Dear Dawn,

On Tuesday, I had the great honour of attending the swearing in ceremony
for Premier John Horgan and his new BCNDP cabinet. I am so proud of John
and his team and filled with new hope that we can stop the Kinder Morgan
pipeline.

Since Parliament finished in June, I have been working non-stop to rally
those opposed to the Trans Mountain pipeline while waiting with bated
breath for Christy Clark’s regime to finally end. And now it has. Not only
do we have a Kinder Morgan opponent in the Premier’s office, we have strong
allies other ministries. George Heyman is the new environment minister.
David Eby is now the Attorney General and many other of our friends hold
key portfolios.

While things have been settling in Victoria I have been burning up the
phone lines with the various legal teams working on the 19 and counting
court cases against our Texas-based adversary. While these teams represent
different municipalities, environmental groups, community organizations and
First Nations they are cooperating at an unprecedented level. I have also
been in constant contact with mayors and councilors from cities and towns
who understand just how wrong this project is for our province and who are
ramping up their own efforts to help oppose this project. It is truly
exciting.

Finally, I have been travelling to different First Nations  communities
along the pipeline route building relationships, sharing information and
developing an understanding of the land on which they have lived for
millennia. I have been meeting with chiefs and councilors as well as
non-elected community members who are resolutely opposed to this new
pipeline. This has been far and away the best part of this experience for
me. Discovering the strongest part of our movement comes from those who
have fared the worst under Canadian laws and policies produces in me
constant reflection and awe.

While Kinder Morgan President Ian Anderson says the project is going ahead,
I know we are close to winning. We just have to keep pushing. So they best
thing you can do now is send that email or make that call to the Premier,
Minister, MLA, MP, Mayor, Chief, or Councillor you know and tell them you
want them to help us in the final push.

People power always prevails in the end.
