*This review marks a once-in-a-generation opportunity to enact a
leading-edge environmental law for nature, communities and
democracy.*Yesterday,
the independent panel appointed to review Canada’s environmental assessment
processes *launched its public engagement strategy*
<http://www.envirolawsmatter.ca/r?u=http%3A%2F%2Feareview-examenee.ca%2Fen%2F&e=1985978e859c634d0eb7446125d37c3b&utm_source=envirolawsmatter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=eareview_engage&n=1>,
including the list of communities it will visit on its four-month tour of
Canada, and the schedule of those visits.

The Panel’s tour *begins on September 19 and is scheduled to wrap up in
mid-December*, so check it out soon – this is a whirlwind engagement
strategy!

This review is an important opportunity for all Canadians to *weigh in on
environmental assessment processes and how decisions should be made* – from
folks with extensive experience or expertise in environmental assessment,
to the general public concerned with how the government makes decisions
about proposals that affect the environment and communities.

Check out the information about *public workshops*
<http://www.envirolawsmatter.ca/r?u=http%3A%2F%2Feareview-examenee.ca%2Fen%2Fparticipate%2Fpublic-workshops%2F&e=1985978e859c634d0eb7446125d37c3b&utm_source=envirolawsmatter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=eareview_engage&n=2>
and *public hearings*
<http://www.envirolawsmatter.ca/r?u=http%3A%2F%2Feareview-examenee.ca%2Fen%2Fparticipate%2Fpresentations-to-the-panel%2F&e=1985978e859c634d0eb7446125d37c3b&utm_source=envirolawsmatter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=eareview_engage&n=3>
to see *when the Panel will be visiting a community near you*, and how you
can get involved.

The Panel has drafted “Themes for Discussion” to help guide participation.
The website is difficult to navigate, but you can *find the Discussion
Themes page here
<http://www.envirolawsmatter.ca/r?u=http%3A%2F%2Feareview-examenee.ca%2Fen%2Fparticipate%2Fsuggested-themes-for-discussion%2F&e=1985978e859c634d0eb7446125d37c3b&utm_source=envirolawsmatter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=eareview_engage&n=4>*
.

*This review marks a once-in-a-generation opportunity to enact a
leading-edge environmental law for nature, communities and democracy.*

I hope to see you at the review,
Anna Johnston, West Coast Environmental Law

P.S. Don’t forget to read *West Coast Environmental Law’s recommendations
on environmental assessment reform*

– based on the collective wisdom of over 30 of Canada’s leading experts on
the subject – when you are preparing your recommendations to the Panel.
