HI All,

While we face some serious issues impacting our wild sockeye salmon, the
forwarded message below holds promise for restoring numbers. It's good to
appreciate good news!

Thank you to Sharon Niscak, Secwepemc representative of Upper Island Women

Subject: Pinks run news
To: Dawn Morrison <dmo6842 at gmail.com>

Hi Dawn,

Thought you would like a positive note:

2. Good news: The pinks are coming up the Tsolum in the thousands. This
is a remarkable success because 2 years ago the Tsolum River Society made a
decision to not hatche the pinks in the hatchery, but to let them reproduce
naturally in-stream. So this is the first "native" generation of pinks
since 1964. Salmon speciate fairly rapidly. If they can repeat this
miracle for five generations then they may constitute a population specific
to The Tsolum. I attach some pictures from this morning for your pleasure.

Enjoy,

Comox Valley,

(this is from post of the president of Comox Valley Nature)

Respectfully,
Sharon
