Welcome to our first news bulletin!

In June, we reached a significant step in the development of this
organization: We incorporated as a non-profit society in BC. This is
so we can better serve you, the members of BC's herdshare community.
Incorporation helps us do such things as fundraising, so that we can
provide the programs and services that the community asked for in the
community survey
<http://newsletter.bcherdshare.org/lists/lt.php?id=YUVSTwdYRAAB>
.

For those of you who signed up to our mailing list months ago, we
thank you for your patience. We do hope
to get informal bulletins like this one out on a more frequent basis.

BCHA President and Spokesperson

*The BC Herdshare
Association is delighted to welcome Mark McAffee of RAWMI back to BC*

We are pleased to host Mark McAfee, CEO of Organic Pastures Dairy
Company and spokesperson for the Raw Milk Institute (RAWMI)
<http://newsletter.bcherdshare.org/lists/lt.php?id=YUVQTwdYRAAB>
to visit BC from September 8th-13th before leaving for Ontario. Since
Mark's last visit
as a guest speaker at the Fresh
Milk Food Politics Conference
<http://newsletter.bcherdshare.org/lists/lt.php?id=YUVTTwdYRAAB>
in April 2013, progress continues as new data confirms that this
nutritious food isn't the health risk which Canadians have been lead
to believe it is. Mark will be meeting with farmers and giving public
talks at the University of Victoria (place and time to be confirmed)
and Kwantlen Polytechnic University about farm-fresh milk safety and
what RAWMI can do for our communities. Meetings with senior government
and public health decision makers are expected to be part of Mark's
visit.

*"For the Love of Farm-Fresh Milk!"* - Free public presentation with
Mark McAfee at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (September 11, 8 pm,
Melville Centre Conference Room, Kwantlen Polytechnic University,
Richmond Campus 8771 Lansdowne Road).

The importance of RAWMI training in BC is that the main
law banning all unpasteurized milk, /Health
Hazard Regulation/
/ /section 2(a) under the /Public Health
Act/, which classifies it as a "health hazard," will only be changed
if we can prove that farm-fresh milk is safe. RAWMI provides training

for farmers on how to ensure that their product is safe, and BCHA is
pleased to be able
to offer this training
<http://newsletter.bcherdshare.org/lists/lt.php?id=YUVRTwdYRAAB>
province-wide.

*Regarding Mark's
visit, please let us know if you would like Mark to visit your
community,
if you would like a chance to meet him, learn more about RAWMI and
raw
milk best practices, and get your questions answered.* Drop us a
line:
email contact at bcherdshare.org <mailto:contact at bcherdshare.org
<contact at bcherdshare.org>>

or phone 1-800-983-7749.

Check our website and Facebook Page for more announcements on events
taking place in Mark's visit. We will also be sending out another
bulletin to members with an update.
