Woa Ladies and Gentlemen - may i introduce to you Mr. John McLeod -
"Action Man" of the Interior of BC.

Now, i've got to admit that: - the first time I met John was at the Annual
Gathering in Sorrento a couple of weeks ago. I was blown away by his
passion! Like all of us, John totally 'cares' about whether 'our children
and grandchildren' will survive. Indeed - all us 'old folks' are getting
freekin' worried, and we want to 'help' before we are found pushing up
daisies in some cow pasture!

The Network: The BCFSN is comprised of a net- work of folk - if you are
receiving this it shows that you also 'care' about the future of food and
of the people eating it. 'Way to go'
everyone... you can certainly give yourselves a pat on the back.....

Perhaps, by working together in this manor, ( as a network of ordinary
people working together) we can indeed swing things in a new and fresh
direction. In other words 'return to the old ways' - by producing and
eating foods raised locally.

I would like to recommend the booklet/guide put out by the Kaslo group
through Ami Watson about a year ago - it deals will many of these issues in
a very 'doable format' .....

and also 'a Seat at the Table' is another excellent document.

unfortunately i don't have Ami's email on this computer so will need to
rely on the Network to ensure this gets to her..... ( I'm hoping she can
send John - and others, if they are so inclined, - an electronic version of
this valuable resource - if not a hard copy....)

John - so nice to 'connect' - both at Sorrento and now via email.

Policy.

Policy is the beginning of change - and is the tough part. 'Writing it'
for sure; and then, ensuring that it is read, understood and enacted.......

Looking forward to any emails from 'policy wonks' that might apply to small
rural communities:)

Thanks for using this 'list - serve' folks. I know sometimes it might be
annoying to get emails and more emails in your inbox that you don't relate
to - but - sometimes they are 'just the thing' a community or individual
needs' to more forward within their own community!

The Saskatoon's are ripe and calling us: Can you hear them? When mixed
with rhubarb and stewed with a little lemon juice and almond flavoring and
a few other 'secret ingredient' they make for a most excellent pie filling!
 Yum, yum and practically free!

Sincerely,
Cheryl Thomas
