Hi Canadians - the CSO delegation in
Rome negotiating the Responsible
Agricultural Investment principles at the Committee on World Food Security,
needs our help in generating social media coverage in Canada. Canada is
blocking text related to FPIC (Free Prior and Informed Consent) for
indigenous peoples in several paragraphs, according to our colleagues
there.

What’s the specific ask? Doug Hertzler from Action Aid USA, who is there
suggests a simple tweet from Canadians asking our government to include the
"rights of indigenous peoples" and FPIC in the RAI text in Rome. There are
several places where Canada is blocking the inclusion of "indigenous
peoples" in paragraphs.

If Food Secure Canada, National Farmers Union, BC Food Systems Network,
Indigenous Food Systems Network & ETC Group and others could Tweet/retweet
this, that would be a great help. Also, follow developments at#cfsrai
<https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/cfsrai>.

Please distribute far and wide!

Hello -

We’ve just received this alert from our colleague at USC Canada asking us
to help create a twitter storm about Canada blocking the use of the
inclusion of Indigenous Peoples from an important negotiation - see details
below.

If you tweet, you can tune into *#cfsrai *and retweet what you find there.
FSC has also just tweeted about it.

In solidarity,
Amanda

I wonder if some of he Canadians on this list might start a bit of a
Twitter storm?

United States over FPIC. We are being forced to accept an exact copy of
the Tenure Guidelines (VGGTs) language on FPIC, but Canada is standing
alone in not even accepting that, they are trying to roll back FPIC for
indigenous people all together. The Canadian delegation here is clearly
uncomfortable, *they are putting the entire rai process in danger*, but
they have instructions from the capital not to move. If any of you can
organize to reach the decisionmakers in Ottawa and let them know this will
be a huge international embarrassment for Canada, it would be great :-)
